1898 – 1910 OS Maps

Comparing the 1898 OS Map with the current map on Cheshire Tithe maps online shows that orchards have been built on at the following locations:

23a and 4a West rd.

South side of the High Street from Weaverham Bank Farm to Brickley Court ( Nos 25 to 39 )

Tower Lane. Rear of Nos 1 to 7.

Forest Street, behind the school.

Lakehouse Farm ( Petrol station and former Toilets ) Northwich Road.

The car park behind the Wheatsheaf, Church Street.

1 Smiths Lane down to Orchard End. Possibly still present in 1971-3 aerial survey,

Mayola and Amaranth, Church Lane.

25 to 47 Leigh Way. Built approx 1971 – 73

A plot eastward from 9 Wallerscote Road and 40 Church lane.

The plot behind 15 – 23 Russet rd on the south side and 40 – 42 Northwich rd on the North. ( This appears to be still undeveloped as of 2019-21 aerial imagery and might be a good place to look for relics of an orchard. ) The 1875 map appears to show 3 rows of 6 trees.

Site of Church Farm , 2-6 Farm rd and west of Orchard Close.

The 1910 OS map shows little or no change from 1898.

The 1875 map is a bit unclear in the centre of the village but in other places appears to record the actual position of trees.

Overall there was little change from 1875 to 1910. The orchards in Weaverham were established well before the Lemoen was marketed in 1899.
