1883 Weaverham Cricket Club – “The Russets”

A wrought iron gate with an apple logo bearing the legend WCC with the date 1883 and RUSSET below.

Weaverham Cricket Club was founded in 1883 and are known as the “Russets”.

Weaverham Cricket club purchased the grounds in Wallerscote Road in 1932. The gates bear the emblem of the club, a Wareham Russet apple.

( Note: The ground is present in its current location on the 1898 OS map )

I do not know when they were first called “The Russets”. It may be in their Centenary Book.
